El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. or El Al came into existence in 1948, and is headquartered in Lod, Israel. It is the national carrier of Israel, and operates out of its primary hub at the Ben Gurion International Airport, Central District. The airline is presently operating domestic and international flights to above 45 destinations across Africa, Europe, North America and Far East. The major destinations being served by the leading Israeli carrier to/from Tel Aviv includes Amsterdam, Mumbai, Athens, Cairo, Beijing, Montreal, Vienna, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Moscow, St. Petersburg, London, Paris, Rome and many more.
El Al is into codeshare agreements with the many international airlines, which includes Thai Airways, TAP Air Portugal, Swiss, S7 Airlines, Qantas Airways, LOT Polish Airlines, LATAM, JetBlue, Iberia, Hong Kong Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, American Airlines, Air Serbia, Air China, Aeroméxico, and Aerolíneas Argentinas.
As of October 2018, El Al has an all-Boeing fleet comprising of 15 Boeing 737-800, eight (8) Boeing 737-900ER, four (4) Boeing 747-400, four (4) Boeing 767-300ER, six (6) Boeing 777-200ER, six (6) Boeing 787-9, and one (1) Boeing 747-400F aircrafts. The airline’s fleet currently stands at a total of 44 aircrafts. The airline has also placed for 10 additional aircrafts, which includes seven (7) Boeing 787-8 and three (3) Boeing 787-9 aircrafts.
El Al offers four travel classes or cabins – First Class, Business Class, Economy Class Plus and Economy Class. The premium customers traveling in First Class are offered spacious, bed-like seats with complete privacy. The seats are equipped with reading light and power port. The customers are served hot Israeli meals and cheeses.
You can look forward to traveling in Business Class in comfortable cradle seats offering features like superior reclining, ample legroom and wide footrest. The customers are served traditional meals and finest Israeli wines, which includes Riesling and Brut Non Vintage.
The Economy Class Plus cabins have ergonomically designed seats featuring 36 inch pitch, ample legroom, greater incline and footrest. Traditional Israeli meals are served on board, complimented with exotic wines. Complimentary iPads are offered to customers on select flights for in-flight entertainment.
Economy Class seats are also comfortable with a 32 inch pitch and ample legroom. The customers on long-haul flights are served complimentary meals and alcoholic beverages. Many magazines and newspapers are also offered on board the flights.
Note: Only kosher in-flight meals are offered by El Al, and passengers are not flown on the Jewish Shabbat or religious holidays.
The passengers can select their seats from the comfort of their office or home on the Internet. They can also take the advantage on online check-in, which can be done from 24 hours up to 3 hours before the scheduled departure time of the flight.
Frequent Flyer program
The frequent flyer program of El Al is called “Matmid”. It has five tiers – Matmid, Matmid Silver, Matmid Gold, Matmid Platinum and Matmid TOP Platinum. The frequent flyer program members can use their accumulated points to gain access to bonus tickets, hotel stays, discounts on car rentals, flight upgrades, and other services and products. For becoming a member of Matmid frequent flyer program, a one-time fee is required to be paid.
